A few months back I left my job to pursue a new one. Before you ask, yes, I am still at that job and loving it. My girlfriend, however, is on her last day at her first-ever job. She decided to take an opportunity with another company to advance her career but has been pondering some of the age-old hesitations about new jobs. Is the money worth it? What if I don’t like the new people? What if the new people don’t like me? What if I don’t like the work itself? What if I don’t catch on right away? And many more like that. You know the drill. Even though she decided to leave she has been questioning that decision on whether it was the right one to make. It got to the point where she asked me if leaving was selfish of her. I inquired further. She explained leaving for money felt greedy, but leaving for new opportunities felt like stabbing her old job in the back. So, were her reasons selfish for leaving?

I think at least one time in everyone’s career they question their decisions and fear they made the wrong one. So, today I just want to talk a little bit about the “selfish” reasons for leaving a job, according to my girlfriend, and share my personal opinions about it.
